Why do I get black boxes when I use remote desktop?
Sometimes network conditions, such as an unstable or slow internet connection, accentuate compression artifacts (or the black boxes you see) in Microsoft's Remote Desktop.
Resolution 1:
Begin your Remote Desktop connection, but before you select connect, select Show Options.
Under the Experiences tab, uncheck Persistent bitmap caching and continue connecting.
Resolution 2:
If the first resolution does not work, try following these instructions:
- On your local computer, open an explorer window and paste this into the location bar:
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Cache - Delete all files in this folder.
- Exit this window and reconnect to the remote server as usual
