In today's day and age it is very easy to be fooled by a malicious email and accidentally open the thought to be a safe file or link in the email. Masiero has a help center article covering fraudulent emails and how to avoid them, but this article covers what to do after the link or file has already been opened.
If you are unsure if the link or file is malicious, it is always good to treat it like it is. Viruses and malware can vary between the level of threat and what they accomplish. Because of this, the safest option after opening an unsure file or link is to shut down your computer right away. This will prevent the threat from continuing damage to your computer, co-workers computer, or even the entire network and company data files. If it is not possible for you to turn off your computer, remove network cable and turn off the wifi to contain the threat to only your computer.
After your computer has been turned off or at least removed from the network, please contact Masiero to diagnose the computer and run repairs. Our team will be able to identify the threat, remove or recover files from a previous time, and get your computer back up and running.
