Description
A remote server is considered a physical or virtual server that is not connected to the same LAN (Local Area Network) as you. Remote servers may be referred to as "Cloud Server" or "Terminal Server", they are synonymous with one another. This guide will showcase how to establish a connection to a remote server using the Windows Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection software. Remote Desktop Connection is standard with all Microsoft Windows operating systems. No additional software will be needed for completing this guide.

11. If all steps were completed successfully, a window will open with a remote connection to the desired remote server.
Power Settings
If your remote connection destination is another desktop computer or laptop (not a server or remote application), please ensure that the proper settings have been adjusted to prevent failed connection attempts. The power settings on the destination computer will affect the success of the connection. For example, if the destination computer is in Sleep Mode the remote connection will fail to establish.
- Right-click the start menu and select Settings.
- Select System.
- Select the category, Power & sleep.
- Under the section Screen, select the drop-down menu and select Never. Under the section Sleep, select the drop-down menu and select Never (not shown in image).
