"Domain Listings" or "Domain Networks" Billing Scam
Overview
A company called “Domain Listings” or “Domain Networks” is sending misleading “Annual Website Domain Listing” notices
via postal mail. These notices are designed to appear like invoices or bills for your domain name registration, but they
are not legitimate.
What Does the Scam Look Like?
The notices claim to sell a "listing on an internet directory," which is unnecessary and provides no real value. While
they resemble official invoices, a closer look reveals disclaimers (often in small print) stating they are not actual
bills.
This scam exploits confusion about domain registration services, attempting to charge you for something you don’t need,
such as basic search engine listings, which are free on platforms like Google and Bing.
Credibility of "Domain Listings" and "Domain Networks"
- Poor reputation: These companies have received a one-star rating on the Better Business Bureau, with numerous
complaints.
- Online reports: Many victims have shared their experiences online, warning others about this deceptive practice.
What To Do If You Receive One of These Notices
1. Don’t Pay: Do not send money to these companies or any others that send unsolicited invoices for services like
search engine listings.
2. Inform Your Team: Alert your accounting department or the person responsible for paying bills to prevent accidental
payment.
How Did They Get My Address?
These scammers likely obtained your postal address through:
- Public records, such as domain registration details or business directories.
- Contact forms on your website.
Important: Your address was not provided by us. These scammers even send these fake notices to us!
